Artist Statement
My portfolio/dvd is a compilation of the different things I learned this year in beginning media arts. The dvd has a number of slide shows of my different photos, such as black and white photography, desaturation, winter photos, typography, street photography, and a retro style capturing past eras while putting my own specific touch on it. Street photography has to be my best slide show because I was able to go out, capture the sights and sounds of day to day life in my community, and all over Minnesota. Not only did I capture the sights and sounds, but I was able to also use adobe photoshop to be able to change the image to fit my distinct style, using such tools as the paint bucket, different layers, and etc. With typography I was able to put words upon pictures so that I could essentially tell viewers of what I feel the picture entails or is trying to portray. I wouldn't compare myself to famous photographers because I'm new at photography, also because I never quite saw myself in the mold of other famous photographers. I have my own distinct style. When looking at my photos, I see that I like to always capture serious moments, or many times I like to admire nature, so I take lots of pictures of landscapes. Overall I must say that the class as taught me alot of things, and hopefully I'll be able to take what I learned and put it to good use.
